The Texas Narcotic Officers’ Association’s East Region along with the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) and the Beaumont Police Department will be hosting an 8 hour TCLEOSE accredited “Pharmaceutical Diversion” training class on March 6, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beaumont Police Department, 255 College, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

Abuse and death from illicit and pharmaceutical drugs continue to devastate families and affect communities throughout Texas and the surrounding states.  In a recent assessment conducted by the Houston HIDTA office, both pharmaceutical and illicit drug abuse is a major public health threat with deaths increasing from year to year.  Our instructors for the class will be from NADDI and have multiple years of experience in diversion investigations.  The course will consist of an overall scope of the prescription drug problem in the United States, pharmaceutical abuse investigations, identification of counterfeit pharmaceuticals, commonly abused pharmaceutical drugs, and “Doctor Shoppers” and forged prescriptions.   A guest instructor from the Houston Police Department Pharmaceutical Squad will discuss trends in Houston as well as Texas Legislation to combat pharmaceutical abuse and diversion.

This course is recommended for all law enforcement officers and supervisors who are involved in narcotics related investigations and pharmaceutical investigations.  You do not have to be a TNOA member to attend, but we encourage your membership. We will check police credentials at the door.  The course fee will be $50.00 for TNOA and NADDI members and $60.00 for non-members.  Cash or check will be accepted the morning of the class on March 6,, 2012.  TNOA and NADDI membership applications will be available and additional membership information can be found at www.tnoa.org and www.naddi.org.

The class will be limited to 60 students.  Additional spots may be added once the class is full.  Please contact me at jerry.mcclain@cityofhouston.net or call Jerry at 281-808-5929 to register for “Pharmaceutical diversion”.
